I have a bachelor’s degree in political science and Russian language from the University of Florida, and earned my master’s degree in statecraft and international affairs from the Institute of World Politics in May 2015.
I began editing in graduate school. Later, as I progressed professionally, I continued editing in an office comprised of ninety-seven percent non-native English speakers. I’ve edited books in the self-help, women’s fiction, and romance genres, and worked extensively with academic writing at the graduate level. I have over a decade of experience researching foreign affairs and international relations.
I’m a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and Romance Writers of America (RWA). During my training phase, a successful and experienced editor (also an EFA member) critiqued my editorial packages, praising my nuanced understanding of story-telling principles and my ability to preserve an author’s voice. Since then, I’ve continued to refine my skills through the EFA’s continuing education program and my personal research. I founded Lyra-Bini Editing in 2014 to specialize in book-length manuscript and concept development, with a special emphasis on working with #OwnVoices and minority authors. Relevant, clear, nuanced, and useful products are a Lyra-Bini staple, and client testimonials reflect that professional standard.
I worked for six years as a personal care assistant for adults with severe disabilities, and am passionate about supporting disabled, POC, and LGBTQ+ writers. At home, when I’m not working, I read up on whatever interests me at the moment.
I am currently writing a novel. More information about this can be found here.
